The Scientific Reason Behind Mandir (Temple) Bells & Ringing Bells 🔔!

❣️🕉️🚩🔔 The ringing of bell is pleasant to Parabrahma  Paramaatma(Bharma , Vishnu & Shiva ) & Also beneficial Devi & Devatas are attracted by this sound.

In ancient times most Hindu Mandir (Temples) never used to have doors. So animals, birds or sometimes homeless poor persons used to stay in the temple for shelter at night. The metals bells then were struck to indicate these people to leave the temple, as God may be wanting to go to bed. In ancient ages; people used to start their day by hearing temple bells and also took their dinner after the bells were rung.

Some also believed that people used to calculate time depending on the ringing of the bells. It was also said that some temples were near forest areas ,and temple & ringing bells used to drive away wild animals.

Ghanta rings  invite the deity to accept the worship and prayers. Generally, devotees ring the bell while entering into the Temple sanctum. It is said that by ringing the bell, the devotee informs the deity of his/her arrival.

It also makes the devotees concentrate on God, driving unnecessary thoughts away from them ,and prevent them chatting  & concentrate on Trimurti ( Brahma , Vishnu & Shiva ) & Devi Maa ( Shakti ).Bell is also rung at the time of neivedyam offering ,usually behind closed screens.

In Tirumala  Gantanadham plays for nearly 30 minutes from the time the food offerings are taken from madapalli (temple kitchen ) to garba graha for offering .It is also relayed in SVBC channel daily ,a very divine experience to hear- souds like ohm. I would like to recollect one Nadaneerajanam performance in tirumala - Sri Ganapathi Sachidananda Swamiji was conducting Nama sankeerthanam almost near the end of the programme , the gantanadam. He stoped silent for a while ,asked the listeners to concentrate - started chanting GOVINDA  ,GOVINDA -BLENDING WITH THE NADAM OF THE BELL  which also sounded like Govinda once he mentioned it Divine experience !

The sound of the bell is considered auspicious which welcomes divinity and dispels evil. A bell is not made up of a simple metal. it is made up of different metals like lead, copper, zinc, chromium and manganese.

The real science is the proportion in which the different  metals are mixed.  The sound that is produced when the bell is rung creates a unity between your left and right brain.  The sharp sound that is produced from the bell lasts for at least 7 minutes. The seven healing centres are activated by the sharp everlasting sound. The bell’s body is the representative of time i.e. Ananta while the tongue of the bell represents Goddess Saraswati. The handle of the bell represents Garuda, Nandi or Chakra.

The moment we enter the temple, we touch the bell and ring it. The sound that is produced lasts for a seven seconds in echo mode. The sound affects seven chakras in your body.  The moment you hear the bell sound, the brain becomes thoughtless, and it helps you to enter a state of Trance.  In this state, you seem to be very receptive.

The Agama Sastra tells us the sound that is produced by ringing a bell keeps the evil power away.  The God is fond of the ring the bell because it pleases Him. Again, we enter the inner chamber of God with complete devotion with the sound of the bells tingling in our ears. The bell produces a long sound of “OM.” At the time of harathi to God also the bell is rung loud .

The significance of ringing the bell is mentioned in the verse of ancient scriptures of Aagma Shastra.

Aagamaarthamtu Devaanaam Gamanaarthamtu Rakshasaam, Kurve Ghantaaravam Tatra Devataahvaahna Lakshanam

आगमार्थं

Meaning:

1: For the purpose of Inviting the Devas and for the purpose of Driving out the Evil Forces

2: I make the Sound of Ghanta (Bell) in the beginning as a mark (of auspiciousness) associated with the Invitation of the Devatas (Divine Forces) (and removal of Evil influences)

At home also  during neivedyam & HARATHI WE RING the hand held bell--with same manthra-

आगमार्थं तु देवानां गमनार्थं तु रक्षसाम् ।

घण्टारवं करोम्यादौ देवताह्वान लाञ्छनम् ॥

Hindu Dharma is a world greatest Civilization and there is a special reason behind doing each and every small thing, every ritual is associated with it. There is nothing like that which is done only because it is happening since ancient times. Not only psychological but there are also scientific reasons behind performing all traditions.

🎯Performing prayers in the temples is an important aspect of Hinduism. It is believed that there is no other place to worship as sacred as the temple. In temples, one must have surely observed bell at the entrance of the temple and in special places. The bell is also an important part of the temple in many homes. But do you know what is the religious and scientific⚛️ importance of putting and ringing the bell? Ever wondered why this is done for what reason and why do we play it?

🎯The temple bell🔔 is not just an ordinary metal but a scientific bell. It is made of various metals including cadmium, copper, nickel, chromium, and Manganese. In which ratio each metal is mixed, this is the most important thing and the real science behind a bell. Every bell is created to produce such a distinctive sound that it synchronizes your left and right brain🧠. When the person rings the bell, then the high sound produced from it lasts for at least seven consecutive seconds, touching the seven chakras of the human body🚶.

🎯It is believed that when you ring the bell, then your mind becomes empty from thoughts. And you enter in the state where you are more receptive and aware. Even it is considered that this is the only way to awaken your mind and thoughts before you enter the temple.

🎯Bell or Ghanta🔔 is an indispensable part of most Hindu🕉️ Pujas. Bell is sounded before the actual puja and only then worship begins. There are 4 types of bells Garuda bell, The Garuda bell is small, which can be played with one hand, Doorbell- It hangs at the door. It is both large and small, Hand bell-It is around and a concrete plate of brass, which is played with a wooden instrument, Ghanta- It is very big, at least 5 feet long and wide. After playing it, the sound goes for several kilometers. A bell🔔 is rung in a temple, mostly during the waving of light in front of the deity, while bathing the deity and while offering food. Devotees on entering the temple also hit the Ghanta🔔 hanged in front of Sanctorum.

🎯The most comprehensive assumption is that by ringing the bell god is invited to accept the worship🙏 and prayers of the devotee. Another belief is that by doing so, evil spirits do not come near you.

🎯It is also believed that when the bell is played then there is a vibration in the atmosphere, which goes far enough due to the atmosphere. The advantage of this vibration is that all the bacteria, viruses, and micro-organisms that are coming in its area are destroyed so that the surrounding environment becomes purified. Therefore, the atmosphere where the bell is rung, the environment always remains pure and sacred. It removes negative forces and opens doors to prosperity.

🎯Symbolically, the body of the bell represents time - Ananta. The tongue of the bell symbolically represents Goddess Saraswati. The handle of the bell is considered to be the vital principle (Prana Shakti) and symbolically represents Hanuman, Garuda, Nandi or Chakra.

🎯Even while performing rituals like Aarti, we ring the bell and the auspicious sound of the conch and other musical instruments are also played along with it. It has special significance too, that it removes the attention of the human from any other sounds.

600 Years Old Tamil Bell found in New Zealand

Who discovered New Zealand ? Certainly Indian Tamilians at least during late 14th or early 15th century, but not Abel Tasman.

Tamil Bell is a broken bronze bell discovered in approximately 1836 by missionary William Colenso.

It was being used as a pot to boil potatoes by Māori women near Whangarei in the Northland Region of New Zealand when found.

The bell is 13 cm long and 9 cm deep, and has an inscription running around the rim of the bell has been identified as old or ancient Tamil.

Some of the characters in the inscription are of an archaic form no longer seen in modern Tamil script, thus suggesting that the bell could be more than 500 years old, possibly from the Later Pandya period.

This or Muhaideen Vakka’s was interpreted in few books by authors wrongly as Spanish Helmet.

This Bell dating back to atleast 15th century, proves the origin of human settlements in Australia and New Zealand.

Seafarers from Trincomalee may have reached New Zealand during the period of increased trade between the Vanni (Wanni) country and South East Asia.

The discovery of this Bell proves that the Dutch explorer Abel Tasman and British Captain James Cook were not the first Europeans to reach New Zealand.

Maori people questioned through Cook’s Tahitian interpreter, were consistent in their belief that no white men had been seen in the country before the Endeavour’s arrival.

This also proves that it was Asians (Indians), who reached New Zealand earlier than Europeans.

In fact, New Zealand was first explored and explained in earth’s geography by Sugreeva in Valmiki Ramayana.

When William Colenso, visited a remote inland Maori village in the north, near Whangarei, he was surprised to find the local Maori people were using an old upturned ship bell as a cooking utensil. When questioned as to where the bell had come from, they gave an interesting reply.

The bell had been discovered hidden in the roots of an old tree uprooted in a storm. Other than that they had no idea about what the bell was or how it had arrived there. There was nothing similar in their culture with which to compare it.

Colenso managed to exchange the bell for a large iron cooking pot and kept the bell, hoping to find out more about it. The bell was donated to the Dominion Museum in 1890 and now belongs to the New Zealand national museum, Te Papa.

Experts studied the 24 letters of the inscription, which seem to make up six or seven words and appears to date from the period 1400 to 1500 CE, making the bell, at the time of Colenso’s discovery of it, already 400 years old.
